On a phone, typing by voice is often faster than the keyboard — especially on the move. iOS has dictation built in (the mic on the system keyboard), but for heavier use it lacks accuracy, text edits and a personal dictionary.
It works out of the box and free: tap the mic on the keyboard and speak. Fine for short messages. Weaker on punctuation and jargon, and it offers no smart edits ("make it an email", "into bullets").
An app with its own dictation keyboard works everywhere you type — Messages, Mail, Notes, the browser. What to look for:
Partner Voice adds its own keyboard to iPhone: tap into a field, switch to it, hold the mic and speak — the transcribed, optionally polished text is inserted. Through Partner ID you get the same dictionary and Pro on Mac and in the browser. Transcripts optionally sync via iCloud, so what you dictate on the go is on your desk later.
It's free on the App Store — try dictation on your iPhone.
